8 Ideas for Decorating Your Nursery Just Right

Jun 20th 2022

Decorating your nursery is a thrilling quest, filled with endless possibilities! The theme, the colors, and every element you place within it– all are personally selected by you to suit your precious family and home!

But, sometimes we need a little guidance when it comes to interior decorating because there is almost too much potential and too much you can place, create, and hang, especially in your nursery. That’s what we aim to help alleviate here today because caring for a little one can be stressful enough, but decorating their bedroom shouldn’t be!

So, let’s make it less stressful and more enjoyable, shall we? Without further ado, here is our list of eight ideas for decorating your nursery just right!

1.Choose the Best Nursery Furniture to Match Your Needs

First and foremost, you should select the best nursery furniture for your nursery based on various aspects. You should have pieces of furniture that are on-theme and match your desired color scheme. Are you trying to emulate a country chic theme or a modern one? Or are you looking for a whimsical or playful theme, like Harry Potter, rainbows, teddy bears, princess, My Little Pony, or even Star Wars?

No matter which theme you decide on, each and every furniture addition should sublimely align with your theme along with its color scheme. And, while this may be trite, we have to say it: they need to be safe for the baby and for you! No lead, must pass safety inspections, meet safety standards– the whole nine.

You must be sure to obtain the necessary pieces of furniture before anything else, like a baby crib, dresser, changing table, glider/recliner, and at least one end table. Remember: we have the best nursery furniture (in all aspects of safety, quality, comfort, and aesthetics!) available for you to discover and add to your baby’s room with peace of mind!

2.Optimize and Organize Closet Space
Clutter is a big no-no in interior design, regardless of the room you’re in. That’s why you should try your hand at optimizing and organizing the closet space in your baby’s room– it can efficiently hide clutter while organizing your important items!

Hang organizers on the clothing rack, add labeled storage bins to the shelf or the bottom of the closet, use drawers, tack on hooks wherever you can– there’s plenty you can do!

3.Consider Commissioning a Mural
Is there really anything more entrancing than a meticulously-crafted painting? We sure don’t think so and that’s why we cannot recommend commissioning a mural for your nursery. By choosing to have a mural on one wall of your nursery, you will add unequivocal personality and uniqueness to your nursery. Plus, it certainly doesn’t hurt to have somebody else paint while you accomplish other tasks!

When browsing through potential mural artists, be sure to have a budget in mind, look at their past work, and know what you want. Having all of these already figured out will save you a lot of headaches in the long run!

Aside from the mural, the other three walls should have washable wallpaper because hey– accidents happen. If that’s not possible, you could always paint them your preferred color or colors!

4.Illuminate the Space with Proper Lighting
Having superb lighting is one of the most vital components of any interior space, which is why we highly recommend you focus on the lighting in your baby’s room. Light up the space with natural light as much as you can, but you should also be sure to have other appropriate artificial lights, like nightlights, lamps, and a well-lit overhead light fixture.

It should be noted that you should steer clear of harsh lighting, though, such as halogens and exposed bulbs. These types of lights can cause distress for your baby! Instead, opt for softer lighting– soft-white, shaded/diffused lights, and/or daylight bulbs are the way to go.

5.Toys, Toys, Toys (and a Place to Store Them)

Considering this is your little one’s room, you should absolutely have their beloved toys and plush animals on display! You can place some toys strategically around the room– small toys on shelves while medium-sized and large toys can be placed in corners or other areas on the floor.

You should also have a proper storage area for their toys as well, such as a storage bin (or two!). You can place this bin (or bins) wherever you see fit (looking at you, now very organized closet!), but our main piece of advice with toys and their storage is that they aren’t too much. Clutter, as we mentioned early, is a no-no!

6.Don’t Be “Shelfish”- Add Shelving!
Shelves serve a double purpose: function and decoration! So, yes, you should use these to your advantage wherever possible. There are also a slew of shelving types to choose from, such as gravity shelves for a clean look, reclaimed wood shelves for a cozy, natural feel, and corner shelves for space-saving value.

Whichever shelves you choose, simply make sure that they are installed appropriately and are out of reach of your baby!

7.The “Ceiling” Is the Limit!

Why not decorate your ceiling a bit too? You can add some enticing items up there to add unquestionable and unique aesthetic appeal to your nursery but also give your curious baby something to admire while in their crib.

We also highly recommend adding a mobile above the space where the crib will be! You can create your very own and string it (safely) from the ceiling, such as feathers, planets, animals, toys, trees, stars, shapes, clouds, snowflakes– anything you deem necessary!

8.Don’t Forget the Flooring
When your baby gets crawling, they should have the appropriate floor to help, support, and cushion them while movin’ and groovin’! There are a few options that you can choose from for the floor of your nursery: carpet, wood, bamboo, laminate, cork, and an area rug. You should also be sure to take into account your own comfort while walking around your nursery.
