Your Baby Registry: Everything You (and Your Baby) Need
Mar 24th 2022
The time is quickly approaching for you to welcome the newest member into your family! Whether you are pregnant or planning to adopt, your baby is coming quickly– and that means that your home needs to be fully prepared for their arrival.
One such step is by having a baby shower where your friends and family can help you celebrate the soon-to-be new family member. Prior to the celebration, however, you should create a baby registry to make sure your loved ones can head to different baby crib stores and help you prepare by gifting you with the items you and your baby need.
Without further ado, let’s look at the necessary items you should add to your baby registry!
Diapers and More
While this may sound trite, it still needs to be said: newborn babies go through a lot of diapers. We recommend adding two to three packs of 140 newborn diapers (that’s how much you’ll likely need for the first 1.5 to 2 months) to your baby registry. You could also choose cloth diapers instead of disposable (you’ll need 20-24 for newborns).
Don’t forget to add other vital changing items, such as:
●Baby powder
●Diaper bin
●Diaper cream
●Baby wipes
Nursery Furniture, Crib Bedding, and Other Items
Your nursery needs to not only be cozy and aesthetically pleasing but also have practical elements throughout the space. Feel free to add even the larger baby furniture items to your registry, especially these mandatory ones:
●Crib (preferably a convertible crib)
●Crib mattress (not all cribs come with these)
●2+ fitted sheets
●Waterproof mattress protector
●Night light
●Bassinet
●Changing Table
●Dresser
●Glider/rocking chair
Bathing Products
If you are wondering how often you will need to bathe your newborn baby, the answer might surprise you. You should only really bathe him or her about three times per week, as they aren’t quite mobile yet anyway and excessive washing can lead to dry skin.
Even with this considered, you’ll still be needing a good amount of stuff to bathe your baby:
●Faucet cover (for safety)
●Baby tub
●Baby-safe shampoo, body wash, and lotion
●Muslin washcloths
●Hooded and soft towels
●Cute bath toys, like classic rubber duckies
Clothing: Shirts, Pants, Bibs, and More
Your baby will need a lot of different clothing items and other similar objects to be comfortable, warm, and prepared for anything and everything. Most newborns fit into clothes that are sized 0-3, but that’s not always the case. Even if they do fit, they’ll quickly grow out of them, so make sure to add a variety of sizes to your registry.
Considering these points, think about the age of your baby throughout the next four seasons and select items appropriately. Add these following items for clothing and even washing:
●Baby-safe laundry detergent
●1 outfit for coming home from the hospital
●1 snowsuit
●2 hats for the sun and 1 soft hat
●3 sleep sacks
●3 sweaters
●5-6 bibs
●5-6 burp cloths
●5 swaddling blankets
●Onesies galore (at least 10 short-sleeved and 10 long-sleeved)
●10 footy pajamas
●At least 10 pairs of socks
●10 loose-fitting pants (leggings or elastic-waisted trousers)
Feeding
Whether you are going the route of breastfeeding or formula, you need to properly equip yourself for what’s to come. We have two separate lists: one for solely breastfeeding needs and a second list for all feeding needs:
Breastfeeding Only Necessities
●Nipple cream
●Breast pump with extra parts
●Nursing cover
●Nursing pillow (to support the baby)
●Nursing bras (depending on if you feel you may need them based on breast size and comfort level. These aren’t necessary but are a nice convenience)
All Feeding Necessities
●8-10 baby bottles
●Bottle brushes
●Bottle drying rack
●A high chair
Toys
Regardless of age, babies need toys in order to assist in their development. While you shouldn’t go overboard with adding far too many toys to your registry, you should add a few basics, such as:
●1 toy for teething
●1 Binky/pacifier
●Rattles
●Soft stuffed animals (preferably made of organic cotton)
●Soft baby book
●Security blanket
●Mat for activities
●Bouncer or swing
Necessary Medical Items
Make sure you are prepared for everything that might come up, including the small mishaps, with some minor medical items:
●Nasal suction bulb
●Nail trimmer (that’s safe for the baby)
●Thermometer
●Saline nasal dropper
Travel Gear
You cannot stay in your home forever with your baby. You will need to head outside with him or her, whether it be to the grocery store or to visit grandma and grandpa! Add these needed travel items to your list to travel as worry-free as possible:
●Travel stroller (preferably one that can handle various weather conditions)
●Car seat
●Carrier
●Diaper bag
●Changing pad that’s easily transportable
