Nursery Crib Sets and Furniture for Your Nursery What You May Need
Mar 24th 2021
Setting up a nursery for a child who’s on the way can be a big task, but when you accept the help you can find, it doesn’t have to be so hard. Don’t get too lost in the details, especially when you’re just getting started out setting everything up.
To keep things simple, here are some nursery crib sets and furniture that you might want to include in your nursery. More specifically, here are some of the pieces of furniture that come with crib sets, as well as others that might make your life easier as a parent.
1.The crib
The crib is the quintessential piece of nursery furniture. Without a crib in the nursery you might as well not even call it a nursery. More important for its actual function than for its appeal as an icon, the crib is where your child will sleep and spend a fair amount of his or her time.
With a crib, function and safety are more important than anything else. For this reason, look for cribs with extensive certification ensuring that they have not been produced or finished with hazardous chemicals. For example, some of our cribs have attained GreenGuard Gold Certification, which tests rigorously for 1,000s of known harmful chemicals.
Cribs should also have a minimum of moving parts - or none, which is even better - and have no exposed hardware. In addition, convertible cribs are particularly valuable, as they will grow with your child. Some even come with the conversion kits as a part of the package, enabling them to convert to a toddler bed and eventually to a full size bed as your child grows.
2.Dressers and changing tables
Dressers and chests of drawers, along with changing tables, are very valuable additions that are sometimes bundled up into nursery furniture sets. The function of a dresser is straightforward - they contain extra space for storing essential items - of which there are many for young parents.
When it comes to features, you should also esteem certification to ensure that they have not been produced with harmful chemicals, but this is not the only potentially valuable trait.
Like cribs, dressers should have as few moving parts as possible, along with rounded corners and anti-tip features or kits. This makes them much safer in nurseries.
As for changing tables, some dressers easily convert to changing tables, which can save you a bit of money. It’s not an absolute necessity for the nursery, but it will make your life a little bit easier. Also, if you don’t have one, you will need to designate a space for changing.
3.Chests, shelves and storage
Like dressers, chests, bookshelves, and other storage essentials will expand your ability to keep things close at hand in the nursery. When it comes to these pieces of furniture, the same traits are valuable here as are valuable in cribs, dressers and changing tables.
They should have as few moving parts as possible - or none - as well as no exposed hardware. They should have rounded corners and anti-tip features or anti-tip kits included. If you can arrange for that, then you’re well on your way to an organized nursery - just make sure these items of furniture are also not finished with any known hazardous compounds.
4.Nightstands
Some nursery furniture sets also come with nightstands bundled into the package. Often little more than just a nice additional piece, nightstands will give you additional space for storage and present a unique opportunity to cultivate harmony in the interior design of the room.
Again, look for nightstands that are not finished with toxic compounds - everything on our website is safe and many items are extensively tested and certified - as well as nightstands that have few moving parts, no exposed hardware, rounded edges. Here as in our other furniture, anti-tip features are a must.
If you can satisfy these requirements at minimum, you’ll be well on your way to a beautifully and thoughtfully designed and decorated nursery for your newborn!
In addition to these pieces of furniture, there are supporting accents and accessories that may be contained in some nursery crib sets or furniture sets. On top of these, you may also want to look for supporting decorative accents, conversion kits for a crib or even a set of accessories to turn a dresser top into a changing table. That will combine the utility of two pieces for your nursery into one.
